Muslim marriage in Grand Prairie

Grand Prairie’s Muslim community is spread across the city and organizes around its masjids rather than clustering in any single neighborhood. The Grand Prairie Masjid on Greenview Drive and Faruq Islamic Center on San Antonio Street serve Sunni families in the central and southern parts of the city, while the Imam Ali Islamic Center on Dalworth Street has served Shia families since 1999. The city’s position between Irving and Arlington also puts residents within a short drive of the Islamic Center of Irving on Esters Road and Dar Elsalam Islamic Center in Arlington, making Grand Prairie a natural meeting point for Muslims across two counties.

Grand Prairie’s Muslim community is genuinely diverse, with South Asian, Arab, African, and African American families worshipping across the city’s three masjids. Faruq Islamic Center was founded in 2016 and has since grown to offer a medical clinic, a Quranic school, and full Ramadan programming alongside five daily prayers. The Imam Ali Islamic Center has served the city’s Arabic-speaking Shia community since 1999.

The city’s position in the mid-cities puts residents within easy reach of the full depth of both the Dallas and Fort Worth Muslim communities. UT Arlington, a short drive east, hosts one of the largest MSAs in the region and draws students from across Grand Prairie and Irving for its annual Grand Iftar during Ramadan. The Islamic Association of North Texas has roots in Grand Prairie, where early community members first gathered before the organization grew into one of the longest-established Islamic institutions in the DFW area.
